A city for one year
In 1908, Belmont Heights became its own city. In 1909, Long Beach annexed it. The name stuck.
The homes
The Belmont Heights Historic District runs from 4th Street to 7th Street, between Newport and Roswell, and was designated in 2002. About two out of three homes in the district are Craftsman bungalows. The oldest go back to 1905, and most were built between 1918 and 1923. You'll also see Spanish, Tudor and a few Victorian homes, plus some duplexes and small apartment buildings. One street to see: Eliot Lane, about 30 small homes built in 1923, its own small historic district.
If you own in a historic district, there are extra rules when you remodel the outside, and some homes may qualify for the Mills Act property tax program. Ask the City of Long Beach and a tax professional before you plan a project.

Broadway
Broadway is the main street. East of Redondo it's coffee, restaurants, bars and local shops, mostly small and independent. 2nd Street in Belmont Shore is a few blocks south.

It has been a historic district since 1982, with Craftsman, California bungalow, Spanish Revival, Prairie, Colonial Revival and Tudor homes.
